Rob INTERVIEWs Singer, Songwriter, Master of the Mouth Harp, Bluesman and Rapper - Philly's one and only G LOVE of G LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE!
Today Rob talks to G. Love (Garrett Dutton) about the 30th anniversary of G LOVE & SPECIAL SAUCE'S monumental 1994 self-titled debut album!
Find out how G Love (Garrett) got his name, his street performing days in Boston, his love for Basketball, what inspired his early love of music and making music and much more!
Garrett's dad Gary joins Rob and G about 30 minutes in and Rob asks him how he handled his son going into the music business and other things only a father would have the answers to ... haha
*********
A little bit about G Love:
Shortly after moving to Boston, Dutton (soon to be G Love) met Tom DeMille, a local producer Dutton later nicknamed T-Time, a reference to DeMille’s appreciation for both music and golf).
In 1993, DeMille flew to New York to meet with a Los Angeles–based producer who had connections to Michael Jackson (arranged through a family friend). DeMille shared some studio and live recordings of Dutton, who had just started going by the moniker G. Love. Later in 1993, G. Love and Special Sauce (as the trio was now called) signed a record deal and released their first album in 1994.
Known for his live shows, he is often seen touring with Jack Johnson and Citizen Cope. As a producer, Johnson signed G. Love to his record label Brushfire Records. He has made appearances on the records of artists such as Slightly Stoopid and Donavon Frankenreiter, and has toured with Dave Matthews.
In 2009, he collaborated with Zap Mama on their album ReCreation, singing on the single "Drifting".
In 2010, G. Love joined forces with The Avett Brothers who produced and are featured on his album "Fixin' to Die". The album was released under the Brushfire label on February 22, 2011.
G Love and Special Sauce's latest album PHILADELPHIA MISSISSIPPI was released on June 26, 2022.
G Love and Special Sauce are currently on their 30th anniversary tour for their debut album selling out shows across the US

ERIC BAZILIAN of THE HOOTERS Interview / Cyndi Lauper / Joan Osbourne
Saturday Dec 09, 2023
Saturday Dec 09, 2023
I grew up watching MTV as a teen (and beyond) and one band that stood out for me were THE HOOTERS (A Philadelphia PA band that looked fun and lyrically different with lines and melodies you'd remember for a long time).
Who can forget the songs "And We Danced", "All You Zombies", "Day by Day" and "Hanging on a Heartbeat" ?
It was a great honor to finally talk to Eric Bazilian!
The Hooters just got off a tour with Rick Springfield & Tommy TuTone.
*********
Matt and I (rob) talk to Eric about:
- Eric's beginnings at age 10 with his band The Limestones
- Being a huge part of the monumental debut album from Cyndi Lauper (Eric wrote and played the guitar riff for Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; his partner Rob Hyman wrote Time After Time with Cyndi)
- We find out how the HOOTERS got their name and Eric even shows us and plays us his very own Hooter
- The creation of Joan Osbourne's hit song "one of us" (in which Eric wrote)
- Eric's connection to Sweden
- How The Hooter's are big in Germany (move over David Hasselhoff!)
- Paul Stanley
- The Philly Taco
and much much more!
************
You can find Eric (or the Hooters) on Facebook & Instagram.
They will embark on another tour next summer.

Today we start the podcast talking about New Music from the Rolling Stones & Green Day and newer artists like Holly Humberstone and Fenne Lily.
We also give you a sample of a new song called GIFT from musician BILLY MAGERISON. Billy gave us permission to play part of his new song!
Before our main subject we cover (like always) albums turning 50/40/30 (in December)
OUR MAIN SUBJECT:
Matt and Rob have been to hundreds and hundreds of concerts over our lifetime and today we pick 5 concerts each that were most memorable for us. What's remarkable is that we didn't pick any concerts in which we both attended (and we've been to a lot together starting back in the early 80s).
We go into some stories / memories of the concert and other things that went on beyond the concert. We also talk about the days of sleeping out for tickets (yeah, we are that old).
Some of the concerts we talk about are:
Bruce Springsteen
U2
Simple Minds
& 21 Pilots
(you'll have to listen to know what all 10 are)
Hope you enjoy our latest podcast ... it's a long one at over 2 hours ... we like to talk.

Dave Swift may not be a household name but he's shared the stage with legendary musicians such as Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Cher, Joss Stone, Eric Clapton, Roger Daughtry, Paul Simon ... and those are just a few.
He's been a member of Jools Holland's Rhythm and Blues Orchestra since 1991 and also a with the house band on Later with Jools Holland (one of the top tv shows in the UK)
He's been called by Bass Guitar magazine as "one of UK's top bassists"
We had a great conversation with Dave and probably one of our longest interviews. We covered a lot of ground from Dave's early beginnings learning his first instrument (not the bass) to auditioning for Jools Holland and recently recording with Rod Stewart for his upcoming album. There's a lot in between and some great stories from Dave about some legendary musicians he's worked with. Like the time they needed a guitar player to fill in (for the house guitarist) when Smokey Robinson was set to do a live show... you won't beleive who they got to fill in.
We thank Dave for taking the time out of his busy schedule to talk to us. He's currently on tour and also in rehearsals for the tv show so he's got a lot going on. Dave was such a pleasure to talk to and you'll hear it in his voice how serious he is about what he does and the love for his art of making music.
At the end of the interview we did ask some "non-music" questions and when we got into food you would not believe it but we ended up talking about cheeses (like our last interview).. this may be a new thing .. or not ..
************
A little about Dave Swift:
Since joining Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991, Dave Swift has established himself as one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players. In his career, which expands beyond three decades, Dave boasts a musician’s portfolio that seconds no other. Dave Swift has played for an array of renowned artists, from George Benson, Chaka Khan, Eric Clapton to Amy Winehouse, Adele and Paul Simon.
Over the years he has performed at many prestigious events, such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Dubai International Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Amnesty International, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Glastonbury Music Festival, and a G8 Conference for world leaders, which included former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and President Bill Clinton. Additional performances include the Millennium Night celebration at the Millennium Dome for Her Majesty the Queen and a sell-out concert at the Sydney Opera House during their 2008 tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Dave Swift is currently on a UK tour with the Jools Holland Band throughout this month and December. Joss Stone will join them on some dates along with Rod Stewart (who will show up for some shows as a surprise guest)
